Troubleshoot: Business sharing account with partner
Troubleshooting Guide: "Business is already sharing this WhatsApp Business account with a partner"
Applies to: WhatsApp Coexistence / Embedded Signup setup in Chakra Chat
Error message
Business is already sharing this WhatsApp Business account with a partner. Switching partners is not supported in this flow. Disconnect the current partner in the WhatsApp Business app, then return here to connect a new partner.
What this means
This number is currently linked to WhatsApp's Cloud API through a different partner (a previous BSP, CRM, or agency setup). Meta only allows one active partner per WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) at a time, so the old connection has to be released before Chakra Chat can connect via embedded signup.
Work through the steps below in order — most cases are resolved by Step 2.
Step 1: Identify the connected partner/BSP
Find out who set up WhatsApp API for this number before — a previous BSP, CRM, or agency. Ask them to:
- Manually disconnect any partner linkage on their end, and
- Remove the associated line of credit tied to the number
This matters because a leftover line of credit can keep the number "locked" even after the partner connection itself looks removed.
Step 2: Disconnect the current partner directly in the WhatsApp Business App
- Open the WhatsApp Business App on the phone tied to the number
- Go to Settings → Account → Business Platform
- Tap Disconnect Account
This is the official, supported way to release the number from its current Cloud API partner. It does not delete chat history or the number itself — it only removes the API-side link.
Step 3: Allow a short propagation delay
Disconnecting can take a short while to fully clear from Meta's systems before the number is free to be claimed by Chakra. If the next step fails immediately, wait 30–60 minutes and retry.
Step 4: If Disconnect isn't available — remove the partner from Meta Business Manager
If Disconnect Account isn't visible, or the customer doesn't have admin access to the app on the phone that originally connected it (e.g. an agency set it up and no longer has access), the release has to happen from Meta Business Manager instead:
- Go to Business Settings → Accounts → WhatsApp Accounts
- Select the relevant WABA
- Open Partners
- Remove/revoke the old partner's access
Note: this requires being an admin of the Meta Business Portfolio that owns the WABA.
Step 5: Retry the Chakra Chat embedded signup
Go back into Chakra Chat's WhatsApp Setup and start the connection again with the same number. With the old partner link cleared, it should connect fresh instead of throwing the "already sharing... with a partner" error.

Step 6: Reset the account if nothing else works ⭐ (Best and verified solution)
If Steps 1–5 don't resolve it, the most likely cause is a ghost line-of-credit linkage left over from the previous partner connection. Resetting the WhatsApp Business App clears these residual Coexistence links and allows a clean reconnect.
⚠️ Carries some risk to local chat data on the phone — proceed carefully and confirm the customer has a backup before resetting.
